About The Rivers
The Cheat River Watershed is the largest free flowing watershed in the Eastern United States. The Cheat is one of the few rivers that flows Northward- with its beginnings in West Virginia’s highest mountains.
The Blackwater River, Laurel Fork, Dry Fork, Glady Fork, and Shavers Fork along with many smaller creeks span an area of 1000 square miles and come together to form the mighty Cheat River as it flows North toward Albright and the crystal clear Cheat Narrows and the spectacular Cheat Canyon. Downstream of the Cheat Canyon the River flows into Cheat Lake and then into the Monongahela River in Morgantown, WV.
The Cheat is a river of great beauty. Enormous boulders build a spectacular river that ranges from “nice and easy” to “raucous and raging”. In addition to the beauty of the river- she also offers some of West Virginia’s Best Whitewater Rafting!
The Cheat Canyon is a premier Spring whitewater run with over 30 rapids Class III or better. Summer brings refreshing family style rafting and fun on the Cheat Narrows and North Branch of the Potomac.
