Savage River

The Savage River is an action packed thrill ride of a rafting trip. This stunningly beautiful trip is a near continuous 5 mile Class III-IV whitewater rapid. Nestled in the heart of the 50,000 acre Savage River State Forest, this river is surrounded by old growth forest and nature at its best. The Savage has been home to the World Championship Whitewater competitions and the Olympic Whitewater Trials. The Savage is also well known as one of Western Marylands premier trout streams.

Three times a year they turn up the dam and give you the opportunity to experience the thrills of this whitewater run. Our trips are fully guided with a guide in the raft with you. Trips include all the equipment and shuttles needed, and wetsuits are available to rent. Our standard Savage set up is a raft with 4-5 guests plus the guide. The Savage is a very fast paced trip with nearly no flatwater.  You have the option to add a second run to your reservation. All Savage trips meet near Bloomington, Maryland. You will be given detailed directions in your confirmation email.  Do NOT come to our main base in Albright for Savage trips!

If you can’t make the Savage dates, check out the North Branch. It meets in the same location of Bloomington, MD on different dates. It is a bit more mild whitewater but with the same continuous type rapids that the Savage boasts.
